Part L - The Customer

As a Consumer what should I know
before my windows and doors are replaced?

With the first anniversary of Part L many consumers/ homeowners are still unaware of the legislation brought into effect last April, which protects them against unscrupulous window fitters or companies when installing new windows.

By not being aware of the new building regulations with regard to a window or door installation, could cause you future problems and can be all down to the wrong choice of installer. The government has made it easy for the consumer to ensure that they have the right products and the correct installation of windows and doors. This is done by either; having the work agreed by building control or by using an approved FENSA installer both designed to ensure piece of mind and regulate the industry.

Purchasing direct from a Window Manufacturer or distributor for DIY without ensuring that building control will accept that Building Regulations are to be met, or by purchasing windows for a installer to fit without him providing a certificate as a FENSA self certificated Installer is dodgy ground. If not properly covered you will lose your right to a independent 10 year guarantee in case the installer goes out of business and a guarantee of compliance to building control which is registered against your home.
